Acts of Kindness Los Angeles
Acts of Kindness LA is a non-profit organization focused on raising money to help the people in our own backyard. The Founder and CEO, Andrea Abbate, recognized the need for a charity that takes responsibility for it's own city, because that is where it all starts. Living in Los Angeles, she knew that something like this could set the trend for all major cities. Kindness, after all, is contagious.
We started by raising money to provide Christmas bonuses for the hard-working and dedicated teachers in Compton and Inglewood. Andrea Abbate (writer and producer for TVs Young and Hungry) came to the schools and talked to the students about being a writer. She wanted to give them the opportunity to learn new things and figure out what they want in life. She held a writing competition and brought the winners onto the Young and Hungry set. Since then, Acts of Kindness LA has handed out hamburgers to homeless in Downtown Los Angeles and recently brought over 90 kids from Compton High to a live taping of Young and Hungry.
